Just like there are infinite possibilities when it comes to prints, patterns and designs for bed linens, there are seemingly limitless ways to make the bed itself. These are all a matter of personal preference, of course—there’s no right or wrong way to do it. In our world, that’s where our Matouk customers come in. We get special requests and ideas for customization all the time from our community of design aficionados, and one of the most popular has been for oversize Euro shams.
While a traditional Euro sham comes in a square shape, typically about 26” or 27” in both height and length, an oversize Euro sham is rectangular, more closely mirroring the shape of a king (though larger). A king sized bed would usually call for three Euro shams and two king pillows placed in front of them, though with oversize Euro shams, only two are used, creating a more streamlined appearance.
This sense of variety is one of the main benefits of oversize Euro shams, and why they’re so frequently requested by our customers. They create a feeling of depth when layered with other pillows against a headboard and make beds look fuller without being overwhelming. They’re an excellent way to recreate the spirit of a hotel bed, and the oversize pillows themselves can do double duty when sitting up in bed or when placed in a reading nook. The use of just two shams offers a more modern silhouette, even when covered in a traditional print, and they create a sense of visual differentiation on the bed.
